What is music therapy?
Music therapy is an evidence-based healthcare profession in which music is used intentionally to address physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and communication goals. Music therapy services are provided by a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) who uses music-based interventions to help individuals improve quality of life, develop skills, express themselves, and achieve meaningful therapeutic outcomes.
Music therapy is much more than simply listening to music. Sessions may include singing, instrument playing, movement, songwriting, improvisation, reminiscence, relaxation techniques, and Neurologic Music Therapy® interventions tailored to each individual's needs and goals.
Do you accept insurance?
Meadowlark Music Therapy Services is currently a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly.
Payment is due at the time of service unless other arrangements have been made. While music therapy is recognized as a healthcare profession, insurance coverage varies widely and is often limited.
Can I come to your clinic for a session?
At this time, Meadowlark Music Therapy Services does not operate from a clinic location.
Services are provided in the client's home, community setting, school, senior living community, nursing facility, hospice setting, or other approved location. This approach allows individuals to receive music therapy in a familiar and comfortable environment while reducing barriers to access.
If you are unsure whether your location is within the service area, please contact Meadowlark Music Therapy Services to discuss available options.
Do I need musical experience to participate in music therapy?
Not at all! No musical experience is required to participate in music therapy.
Music therapy is designed to meet individuals where they are, regardless of musical background, ability, or experience. The focus is not on musical talent or performance, but rather on using music as a tool to support therapeutic goals, self-expression, engagement, and overall well-being.
Whether you enjoy singing, playing instruments, listening to music, moving to music, or simply participating in a way that feels comfortable, sessions are tailored to your unique strengths, interests, and needs. Everyone can benefit from music, and there is no "right" or "wrong" way to participate.
How many participants can attend a group session?
The ideal group size depends on the needs, abilities, and goals of the participants, as well as the available space. Music therapy groups can be adapted for small, intimate settings or larger community programs.
In most cases, group sessions range from 5 to 25 participants. Smaller groups may allow for more individualized attention and interaction, while larger groups can promote community engagement and shared experiences.
For memory care communities, classrooms, autism support programs, and other specialized populations, group size recommendations may vary based on participant needs. I am happy to work with your organization to determine the most appropriate group size for your setting and goals.
